Three Levels of GSI Cookware |
| GSI cookware is available for all levels of campers and
outdoor chefs. There are three distinct series of cookware to
meet your particular needs. Hard Anodized Extreme Cookware is
considered the "finest" outdoor cookware, and that won the
Backpacker Magazine's Editors' Choice Award for 2001. Bugaboo
Teflon Cookware is lightweight non-stick aluminum, and the
Glacier Stainless Steel Cookware is rugged, durable, and
economical. |
Cookware 101 |
| Cookware sets can be made out of several materials. Copper
is considered the best material for cookware, as it conducts
heat uniformly and quickly. Aluminum is widely used in cookware
sets as it performs almost as well as copper and is
generally cheaper, but be sure the aluminum is a thick gauge.
Cast iron cookware sets can be even cheaper than aluminum, but
it does require more maintenance. Enameled cast iron can be
very colorful, but expect the price to go up quickly! A
nonstick cookware set has manmade coatings that keep foods
from sticking to the pan. When cooking fish or omelets, for
example, this can be a big help. Stainless steel cookware sets
are easy to clean but are also prone to hot spots, so search
for thicker pots and pans. |
The History of Circulon
Cookware |
| Here's a bit of Circulon history that you may not know.
Circulon, the first line of hard-anodized, non-stick cookware,
was created in 1984. Its “Food Won’t Stick for 10 Years” claim
revolutionized non-stick cookware. Circulon was the first
hard-anodized non-stick cookware in the U.S. and featured its
patented Hi-Low nonstick technology, with grooves in the base
of the pan which made the pans at least three times more
abrasion resistant than any other non-stick cookware on the
market. |
Aluminum Cookware Does Not Link to Alzeimers
Disease |
| Anolon cookware information: Some people are concerned
about the association of aluminum cookware and Alzheimer's
disease. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports show
there is no direct correlation between this illness and the
eating of food prepared in aluminum cookware. The latest
research available indicates that a heretical gene mutation is
the probable cause. |
Building a Cookware Collection |
| Sometimes the best way to take the guesswork out of
purchasing fine cookware is to buy a set. Anolon offers a
great set that will include pretty much everything you need to
whip up your favorite meal. A typical set of Analon Titanium
cookware will include three sizes of sauce pans with lids (2-
to 4-qt.), a 10-qt. stockpot with lid, two omelet pans, and a
12-inch saute pan with lid. A good start for your cookware
collection! |
Seasoning your Cast Iron
Cookware |
| Here is some helpful cast iron cookware advice: Cast iron
is the original “nonstick” cookware, but you have to treat it
first. This is called “seasoning”. Wash your new cast iron pan
in hot, soapy water. Rinse utensil and dry completely.
Discoloration on towel is normal. Next, apply a thin, even
coating of melted shortening (not butter) inside and outside
the utensil with a soft cloth or paper towel. If your cast
iron pan has a lid, make sure you season it as well.. Preheat
oven to 350 degrees. Place utensil on top shelf of oven,
upside down. Place aluminum foil on a baking sheet and put on
bottom shelf of oven to catch any drippings. Bake your cast
iron cookware in oven for one hour, then turn oven off and let
utensil remain in the oven until cool. To clean utensil after
use, use boiling water and a plastic scrub bun or brush. Do
not use soap, unless you are going to repeat the seasoning
process. |
